William Ploger Obituary, Death Cause – The untimely passing of William Ploger on May 10, 2023, who had previously served as a commissioner on the Park Board of Commissioners for the Arlington Heights Park District, was a devastating event. Ploger had served in this capacity for the Arlington Heights Park District. His unexpected passing came as a shock to everyone who heard the news. As I share this information with you, despite my best attempts, I am unable to hide the fact that I am feeling sad about it.
His contributions to the Park District’s efforts were invaluable. William was a significant contributor to the District’s success in achieving recognition as an IAPD/IPRA Distinguished Park and Recreation Agency and as a National Gold Medal Finalist for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management. Both of these accolades were earned as a result of the District’s outstanding park and recreation management. Both of these honors are a testament to the District’s commitment to providing outstanding management of its parks and recreational spaces. On top of that, William was selected as a finalist for the National Gold Medal for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management. He was afforded this privilege as a recipient. These acclaims have been awarded to the District as a mark of appreciation for the exemplary management that it demonstrates with regard to its parks and recreational spaces.
William served on the Park Board for a cumulative total of five years, beginning in 2013 and continuing through 2021. His final year on the board was in 2021. He was a significant contributor to the Park District’s efforts to acquire, design, develop, and/or renovate premier recreation areas and facilities, including, but not limited to, the Camelot Community Center, Frontier Park, Arlington Ridge Center, Heritage Tennis Club, Sunset Meadows Athletic Turf, Arlington Lakes Golf Course & Clubhouse, and Lake Arlington, to name just a few examples. In addition, he was instrumental in the Park District’s efforts to build the Arlington Ridge Center.
