Vilma Leondakis Obituary, Death Cause – On March 16, 2023, at the age of 91, Vilma Leondakis of West Springfield, Massachusetts passed away quietly in her sleep. She is the daughter of Charles and Arianthe Kantos and was born in Springfield, Massachusetts. After finishing high school at West Springfield, Vilma continued her education at Boston University and American International College. In June of 1953, she tied the knot with the late Nicholas Leondakis, the man who would become her true love.
In 1998, Vilma and Nick made the journey to Stuart, Florida, where they quickly became two of the first people to join the newly established St. John Chrysostom Greek Orthodox Church. Vilma was an avid art enthusiast, and in her later years she flourished as a painter, working in oils and watercolors with great productivity. She enjoyed painting still lifes, but her favorite painting was one she did of her husband’s garden in Crete, Greece, at the summer home they shared for many of their latter years together. She and her husband had shared this home for many of their later years.
Vilma was a very involved member of her church and served in several leadership capacities in charitable organizations. She had previously served in that capacity for the Ramapogue Women’s Club, the Ladies Philoptochos Society, the Cretan Ladies Society, and the local Parent Teacher Association.
In addition to being a wealthy real estate investor, Vilma also had a successful career in real estate sales. In addition to her passion for philanthropy and assisting others in the process of locating their new home, Vilma and Nick enjoyed entertaining their friends and family by arranging vibrant parties, which frequently came to a close with the participants engaging in Greek dancing.
Not only was Vilma a loyal wife and mother, but she also delighted in watching her family develop through the years. She showered her grandchildren with love, so generating precious memories that future generations will hold dear. Vilma had a positive impact on a great number of people’s lives and was cherished by all those who knew her.
