Robert Kirkby Obituary, Death Cause – We mourn the passing of Robert Kirkby (Bob), popularly known as “big Bob,” who served as President of our club. Our hearts are filled with deep regret and sadness.
After a long battle with motor neurone disease (MND), Bob lost his battle with the disease on May 6 while he was at home with his family. Not only did Bob serve as President of the BAC/ee club, but he also has an impressive work history at BAe systems, which is what attracted him to the club as a well-known player. Throughout his time at BAC, his commitment to the club, leadership, and passion for the organisation were all obvious.
The funeral service for Bob will be held on Tuesday, May 23, at 1.30 p.m. at the Preston Crematorium, and thereafter the celebration of his life will continue at the BAC/ee Sports & Social Club.
Your laughter, as well as your commitment to the club, the game, and most importantly the ground, will be greatly missed. It just won’t be the same without you zooming around on the gang mower, cutting the grass in quick succession.
Nearly every day of the week, you might find him toiling away at the club’s operations and maintenance with Dave, Bill, and an untold number of other people. Bob took great satisfaction in his role as groundskeeper for the sports field, where so many people of varying ages played football and cricket. We would like to extend our most heartfelt thanks and sympathies to Bob’s wife Kath, as well as to their sons John and Phil, as well as their families. He was devoted to his family and found great delight in his role as a grandfather.
We would like to express our gratitude to you on behalf of the entire coaching staff as well as all of the current and former players for the dedication you have shown to the club along with the other members.
