Raymond Boyd Obituary, Death Cause – Raymond W. Boyd, who was 94 years old, passed away on May 17, 2023 in the Hospice Unit at the North Mississippi Medical Centre in Tupelo, Mississippi. In Columbus, Mississippi, on December 16th, 1928, he was born parents Raymond Wren and Julia Corinne Boyd, both of whom have since passed away He was a child during the Great Depression and World War II. When he was still young, his father passed away, and soon after, his family relocated to Hamilton, Mississippi.
He completed his high schooling in Hamilton and received his diploma there. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and spent his service stationed in various European countries, including France, Germany, and Switzerland.
Soon after his return, on the evening of Christmas Eve in 1952, he wed the woman who would become the love of his life, Ruby Jewel Winders. The couple uprooted their lives and moved from Hamilton to Washington, D.C., where Raymond found work in the fingerprint section of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Ruby eventually joined him as well, and she began her career in the fingerprint section about the same time. Before moving back to Mississippi, the couple stayed in Washington, District of Columbia, for a total of five years. Raymond was hired by American Potash Facility in Hamilton, which would subsequently become Kerr- McGee Chemicals, shortly after his return to his home country. Before taking his retirement in 1993, he had a career spanning thirty-five years at Kerr- McGee.
Up to the time of his passing, he served the New Prospect Baptist Church both as a member and a deacon. Raymond’s devotion to his church family led him to serve as the church cleaner for a number of years. He had a lot of fun participating in the various activities that the church offered, especially singing in the choir. Caitlyn and Alison, Raymond’s grandchildren, were both very good softball players, and Raymond took great pleasure in watching them. In addition to that, he enjoyed working in the garden, mowing the grass, and making the daily trek to the family pond to feed the ducks and geese there.
He was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Corinne Boyd, two sisters, Madia Curtis and Lois Gerhardt, and his beloved wife of sixty-four years, Ruby Jewel Winders Boyd. His grandparents, Raymond and Corinne Boyd, also passed away before him.
He is survived by his son, Randy Boyd of Hamilton, Mississippi, and his daughter, Candie Atkins (Stan), also of Hamilton, Mississippi. He also leaves behind his granddaughters, Caitlyn Atkins Baker (Josh) of Canton, Mississippi, and Alison Atkins Harmon (Garrett) of Meridianville, Alabama.
On Saturday, May 20, the family will welcome friends at New Prospect Baptist Church in the Lackey Community beginning at 11:00 a.m. and continuing until the service time of 1:00 p.m. The funeral will immediately follow at 12:00 p.m. The ceremony will be presided over by Bro. Jack Inmon and Bro. Kevin Brown. The interment will take place at New Prospect Cemetery.
Charles Adkins, William Dean Atkins, Charles Grace, Ricky Reynolds, Larry Slade, Mike Savage, Charles Lee Smith, and Charles Wayne Winders will serve as pallbearers at the funeral service.
